New Travel Ideas, A Vote that Actually Counts

While many of us have become disillusioned with political voting, there is a place where your vote can still change the world. Global change is no exaggeration because this is all about voting for ideas to improve travel. Travel takes us locally and globally and right now Amadeus, a global travel solutions provider, have created a competition where you can submit, comment on and vote on travel ideas.
Travelling is something many people experience in their lives. While not everyone experiences air travel in their lives, for those of us who do, we’ve likely all had ideas on how to improve the travel experience. There has never really been a forum where we could share those ideas and have them read by and acted on members of the global travel industry until now.
For the last few months Amadeus have been accepting submissions on how to improve the travel experience however now with around a month left they also need your vote. Yes, that’s right, they need you to vote on the people’s choice for improvements to travel and we’d all like to see. While that may seem like all your Christmases come at once with the air travel industry (and others) listening to your opinion wait for the best news – not only is there a €20,000 top prize but you can help an idea get attention and win a prize as there are FIVE people’s choice awards where €2,000 is awarded but more importantly your favourite idea(s) get featured and brought to the attention of an industry fraught with emotion. There are a number of ideas already submitted however there is still time to submit a new one so if you don’t just want to vote to get your favourite exposure but want to see your idea to improve travel get more exposure itself, enter it quickly and make sure to get people to vote for it by promoting it and who knows – maybe your idea will get picked up as well.
Ideas already submitted have been diverse. With everything from an unpacking service at your destination to a single identification to help travellers pass seamlessly through the airport experience, there have been a number of diverse suggestions make and one will be chosen by a panel of judges as the one to be made reality. While nothing is guaranteed you may be voting for or even submitting the idea that will change the face of travel forever.
This is everyone’s chance to change the travel experience for the better and so whether you have an idea to make travel better of want to vote for your favourite to bring it to the attention of the world’s travel industry or perhaps the aerospace industry, now is absolutely your chance. We’ve all probably had ideas to improve travel while travelling ourselves but lacked the means, until now, to make them reality.
Travel Wrap for Travelling
The words travel wrap, to me give me the feeling of warmth, snuggling down with a good book or a mug of hot chocolate. It says a warm blanket, folded at the end of the sofa ready to wrap you up on a cold winter’s night, or a shawl you can wrap round your shoulders.
But of course a travel wrap is not really for home it’sis really for travelling, whether it be a car blanket that you keep in the boot for emergencies, or a shawl you use on a long train journey, or a kids blanket to help the children to sleep on a long flight.

A wrap or travel blanket for the car is great to keep in the boot all the time, it can be used as a picnic blanket if you have not packed one, or if you are on a long journey and the passengers want to sleep, a rug to keep them warm. They are also fantastic for emergencies in the cold weather, if you break down or get stuck in snow, they can be essential, especially if you cannot use the car heater.A travel wrap can simply be a really wide scarf or pashmina that you can wear on the journey but you could also can stretch out over you or wrap it around your shoulders on the train or plane.
A wrap can also be a really great solution for travelling with kids, they often get cold if they are young and can’t yet walk and if they are still sleeping in the day, so a blanket that you can have with you all the time in the buggy or car seat is a really good idea, you can take is out when you get on the train or plane and use it on the journey as well as travelling to the station or airport.
These days you can get travel wraps for kids that are shaped and fit into a seat and have holes in to allow the straps through. They can be left in the car seat or buggy all the time so you always have it with you if you need it. They can be wrapped or unwrapped, which is great for travelling when often the temperatures change dramatically as you move in and outside, air conditioning, cars in cold weather before they warm up. It also means if the child is sleeping you can wrap and unwrap them as often as you like without waking them up.
It is always worth having a travel wrap, or something that can be used while travelling. They can have so many uses and be left in the car or buggy so you always have it with you. Make sure you get one that is useful to you and that you can keep especially for travelling.
Conscious Travel Ideas

With summer sun and greening hills the urge to explore and break away from the mundane redundancy of life settles into our hearts, and we long for that one word “vacation”. Sadly many of us are really suffering from the economic times, which forces us to look closer to home for our time away from work. Those of us who can travel are much more discriminating than we used to be. Where our money is spent is truly a vote as to the direction that we want to see our world go. Here are some easy, eco-friendly and frugal options that anyone can consider while engaging in lots of activities without guilt.
When making any plans for you or your loved ones, consider choosing activities that support responsible ecological and environmental development in that area. Places you might want to explore are orangutan rescue organizations, preserved park-lands and eco-tours. Also, consider rehabilitation projects that are happening in your area – or start your own. There really is nothing like the rewarding feeling that comes from taking a few bags down to a polluted area, sorting the trash appropriately for recyclables, etc and knowing that when you leave that day you have made a huge difference for the planet. Consider things like planting projects, or volunteer projects that you can get involved in closer to home. These shouldn’t be looked at as “work” but more as a chance to meet new, like-minded people, to have fun and get involved in your community. At the same time you’ll be left with the knowledge that you are leaving a lasting legacy.
Be conscious when tossing food out when traveling! You might be conscious of throwing non-organic garbage out the window when traveling, however few people realize the potential consequences of throwing out that apple core or banana peel out the car window. Guilty of this ourselves… up until about 8 years ago, when hiking we would leave the apple cores, watermelon skins and banana peels in the area by tossing them into the forest or placing under a rock, not realizing that we may be attracting bear and other animals to the trail where other people frequent.
According to the Go & Do visitor magazine for the West Kootenay region (2008 issue) foods tossed out of travelers windows can lure animals to the road where they could be hit by cars, potentially causing accidents or damage to vehicles. Their bodies can then attract larger predators and scavengers and the problem then just gets bigger and bigger – all because of one little apple core.
To put this into perspective, down in the southern section of BC – Canada’s western most province – the Wild animal Rehabilitation Center, 80% of the animals treat have injuries sustained from human activity. I learned that information during an interview with a representative from the Wild ARC org Sara Debois on March 27, 2008 on the Conscious Discussions talk radio show. (blogtalkradio.com/consciousdiscusssions)
Another way we can reduce this tragedy is to reduce speed in areas where wildlife caution signs are posted or near water sources. Create a game with the family and have them keep an eye on the sides of the road to increase the safety. In the evening the eyes of the animals are likely going to reflect the light from the road and will glow a red color. If you see two – or even one glowing dot, you’ll want to slow down right away and be prepared for anything. When you see one, keep in mind that animals will often travel in groups of two or more, so there may be a few more critters lurking around somewhere. Dawn and dusk are particularly dangerous due to the lack of visibility.
